Panasonic has announced a new lens molding technology that will make camera lenses cheaper to manufacture as well as more reliable and with higher performance. It is a fore-infrared lens molding technology for far-infrared aspherical lenses that use chalcogenide glass to enhance the performance of cameras and sensors.
The new production process can be used for spherical and diffractive lenses of various sizes. One of the key features is that it does not require adhesives, greatly reducing the potential for gas contamination inside the lens, protecting the edge of the lens and improving the accuracy of installation on the barrel.
