A new member of the MediaTek Kompanio chipset series designed for premium Chromebooks has been released. The Kompanio 1380 has similar specifications to the previously released Kompanio 1300T, but without 5G connectivity.
The CPU is based on four large Arm CortexA78 cores clocked up to 3GHz and four efficient Arm CortexA55 cores clocked up to 2GHz. The GPU side is covered by the ArmMali G57, which is a step down from the MaliG77 MC9 1300T. Elsewhere, the new chip offers MediaTek APU 3.0, up to 16GB, LPDDR4x RAM, eMMC, UFS 3.1 and NVMe storage support.
The Kompaio 1380 can power one independent dual-panel display at resolutions up to 4K at 60 fps or 1440p at up to 120 Hz. The chip also supports PCIExpress Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1. It has Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5 connectivity. Announced last month, the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 will be the first device to feature the Kompanio 1380 chipset.
